Comparison and Contrast of Roll Bounce and The Aviator
Length: 1:45 vs 2:45 (i’ll let you figure out which one took more time to watch)
Cost: $5 for a matinee of Roll Bounce vs. Free viewing of Aviator (courtesy of Jonny’s DVD collection)
Value: Roll Bounce (RB) was a wonderful use of financial resources, I’d describe it as one of the best $5 I’ve ever spent. I would not pay for it again, but I thoroughly enjoyed the sentimental pseudocomedy and roller skating antics. Aviator (A) was educational and interesting, sparking further research and a little bit of conversation, but has no replay value.
Subject Matter: RB detailed the story of SOUTH SIDE youth during the 1970s, the height of Disco and the roller skating phenomanon. A was primarily about a man that we knew would turn out to be crazy and his various interests. It had some funny moments (2, to be exact, but I can’t remember the quotes). RB had funny moments also, but they were of the Unintentional variety.
Summary: RB was wonderfully predictable and short, and was “You Got Served” on rollerskates (without the dance jealousy). Plus you can do hand motions to describe which movie you’re seeing. A was boring at times and had no fun hand motions associated with it. All in all, see Roll Bounce if you can get a ticket for $5 and have no expectations. See Aviator if you’re interested in the development of the aviation industry and/or mental health. Don’t see either one if you’re looking to laugh really hard, or if you have something better to do.
Comment on things I’ve forgotten, please.
