It’s the women’s health intersession!!!
Translation: Dr. Manting spends the first 30 minutes of class trying to explain why we are expected to just “scan” the assigned readings, looking for points that are repeated. We’re supposed to learn those on our own, because the in-class lectures are not covering all of the testable material.
That’s fine.
Except when there’s >200 pages of assigned readings. For each day this week. If I want to read 1000 pages in a week, it better be a Tom Clancy novel. Besides, the material is slightly to moderately boring (physiology isn’t exciting stuff) and it’s so hard to read a PDF on a screen without getting distracted. And I’m not going through a whole ream of paper just to print two days worth of readings.
OK, enough complaining. I’m overdue on a few movie and television reviews:
Batman Begins (DVD Widescreen). I don’t have a cutesy “5 tongue depressors” rating system, but if I did (and I might have just created one, I’ll define the scale in a future post) this movie would get 4.5/5. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was very entertaining, and that’s exactly what I want in a movie. At a little over 2 hours, it was a good length for an action movie (in contrast, a 2 hour comedy is usually bad). It made me want to try out ripping DVDs on my new computer, starting with the Original Batman (Adam West) from the 1960s. I’ll find a good scene, rip it to a small file size, and post a link here so everyone can enjoy it.
There hasn’t been much on TV recently, baseball has dominated the landscape during the week. CSI of course is carrying thursday night TV (as long as Arrested, House, and OC are on a break, it’s about the only thing worth anticipating). I’ve been watching the UFC Ultimate Fighter 2 on SpikeTV and trying to keep up with Nip/Tuck on FX, but that one is a little weird. When Breaking Bonaduce is on, you absolutely can’t tear your eyes away from it (surprised the Sports Guy hasn’t written a column on that show yet). There aren’t any more MTV shows that are absolute “must-see” — am I getting too old for MTV?
I’ve been reading a little bit also, _Bringing Down the House_ (not related at all to Queen Latifah) was excellent and I will lend it to anyone who wishes to borrow it. It’s a quick read (<250 pages) but entertaining, and it makes you want to go play blackjack (despite the fact that it’s probably my worst casino game). Next are _Choke_ by Chuck Pahlaniuk (i don’t feel like looking up the spelling of his last name) and a western called _All the Pretty Horses_ which won some sort of award, and was an impulse buy (3 for 2 at Borders).
I’ve gotta go do a patient interview, ensuring I’ll be on campus past 5:00. Tomorrow is more womens health intersession followed by problem based learning small group, and then thursday afternoon will contain STILL MORE sexual interviewing skills sessions.
