boring boring boring

November 30, 2005

sorry for the lack of updates —
I’ve been studying and it’s been a pretty boring week (despite the excitement of learning to read an EKG!). I’d tell you all about what I’m responsible for knowing on the test friday, but you’d all hate me instantly for discussing it.
Let’s see —
Christmas is coming up fast, and I can’t wait for it.
I have this test friday, then two more weeks of class culminating in a test dec. 16th, then I’m done for a few weeks. Of course, I’ll try to do some Step 1 review over the break (because I’m not going to mess with Honeybaked Ham) and hopefully help with some leaf blowing/mowing/etc.
That’s about all I’m thinking about, just looking forward to a break and spending more than a weekend in Dunwoody. (of course I just did that over Thanksgiving, but there was a lot going on).

No real political or economic rants currently, so that’s a bonus…

That is all…

sunday night

Bullet points to think about (because i’m tired, you can fill in the blanks):

— I am very thankful for friends, family, and my lovely girlfriend Katie (who put up with my family this weekend which I’ve decided is the best compliment you can pay somebody)
— I really like guns and knives, and wish I had a place to shoot more frequently
— having an surprise “extended-family christmas” at Thanskgiving is pretty awesome
— don’t put Munchies near me, I’ll eat them all
— you’re a cheap bastard when you’ll spend 3 minutes shaking a toner cartridge just to make it print 4 more packets
— you’re lazy when you get excited about leftover chinese food simply because it means microwave+food = dinner, everything else optional
— coffee is served way too hot, how does the human mouth get used to that temperature
— rumor has it that waffle house now has a chocolate chip waffle
— i have a library lab tomorrow (mandatory) that tests, among other things, my ability to do a google search
— we had a library lab last year that tested, among other things, my ability to do a google search
— i saw more cigar smoking at the Tech game than i’ve ever seen in one place before, in my life
— i may hate the Gators with a passion but I don’t say “to hell with Florida” every time I score a touchdown when playing Arkansas State
— some UGA fans might and that makes them obsessed and bothersome
— three weeks till Christmas break…then only 5 short months until no more classroom for me
— and Step 1…there, i said it

i’ll post various camera phone pictures as soon as i can get a data cable off Ebay…

Walk the Line review

November 22, 2005

OK here we go.
Before I begin on the details of the movie, it was really impressive to listen to Joaquin Phoenix sing Johnny Cash’s songs. I acquired the soundtrack which is comprised of (mostly) him singing, and the songs compare really well to the originals. Reese Witherspoon also does a lot of singing and she did a wonderful job. CD soundtrack available upon request (comment)
The movie was a little different than I expected, mostly because I didn’t know much about Johnny Cash’s life. It was a brilliant movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. That said, it’s intense at moments, and really paints a picture of the struggle that Cash went through during the beginning of his career. Addiction is a significant theme of the movie, and you get a feel for dependence and how it affects a brilliant musician. It’s interesting to watch the relationships in the movie, I felt like the movie was very believable. It’s long but it doesn’t feel long, you get invested in the characters. It’s also interesting to see the people that Cash toured with in his early career and how they were portrayed in the movie.
Bottom line, it’s a 5/5 tongue depressor film. Go see it over the break.
Plus you can chuckle as you walk by the people waiting in line to get into the 3rd Harry Potter showing of the hour…

it’s Thanksgiving folks

Thanksgiving means a few days off from school to contemplate freaking intense cardiology lectures, football (watching and playing), and pumpkin pie.

That said, I want to be thankful for this website (discovered by cam) http://p075.ezboard.com/bjefffsbeardboard

I’ll let you discover it for yourself.

I’m also thankful for new cell phones and cell phone forums that tell you how to “unlock” the disabled features on them: I’ve been playing with my motorola e815 and found a way to connect my PDA via bluetooth to the internet, using just the cell phone. and i’m pretty sure it doesn’t charge for the data, maybe just the minutes. It can also play mp3 ringtones which is pretty sweet, everybody leave me a comment with the best 30 seconds of any song you can think of (i’ll make it into a ringtone and then put it on my phone, maybe even as your ring!!!!)

I’m thankful for my car and how smoothly it rides on the highway. I’m not thankful for the dents and scratches on the driver’s side, NONE of which are my fault.

I’m thankful, for once, that MCG paperwork was slightly efficient (they have my performance check, after only a 2 week delay — not bad for a monolithic educational institution).

I’m thankful for this new computer which allows me to acquire files popular tracker-based peer filesharing services. Recent files include: UFC 56 and Smokey and the Bandit (which is incredible and you shouldn’t be surprised if you get a burned DVD of it for Christmas).

I’m seriously thankful for you, the readers, because you keep me motivated to write and be mildly creative.

I’m thankful for http://www.sportingbetusa.com (enough said) and my “a little above breaking even” wagering skills.

Finally, I’m thankful for trickshot magic on ESPN classic, because it’s providing me the entertainment I needed while packing and writing this entry.
