Fellas, cool out

April 28, 2006

Cool out!
the music is good, it’s very percussive and introspective. Plus it’s very interesting to feel like you’re the overwhelming minority (straight, white, conservative male - doesn’t happen very much).
I do like the music. I have more Ani Difranco on my computer than anything else. Her guitar playing is ridiculous, she uses alternative tunings better than anyone else I’ve heard (inventing quite a few herself). S
he frequently incorporates weird instruments on stage. Example: there were 3 musicians on stage Wednesday, and one was solely playing the xylophone and the triangle.

Regarding dodgeball:
I don’t think Katie will ever be interested in wearing the green visor and keeping the dodgeball stats.
I can’t write much about dodgeball until something really humorous happens and I have to verbally recount the story. We’ll have team superlatives, don’t worry about that…

we’ve got a thursday update

April 27, 2006

alright alright alright

Items I still have to discuss:
Sopranos from Sunday

  • Artie is about to get capped
  • Chris punched an old actress for her goodie bag because Ben Kingsley wouldn’t get him one
  • There is going to be some fallout from the assassination of the Mayor of Munchkinland or whatever they call him

Monday
Our softball team lost our semifinal game (but we didn’t get Mercy Ruled like we did when we previously played that team). I batted terribly but I’m not going to talk about that here.

Tuesday was a class day, followed by band practice for Friday’s “cheesy lounge music” concert. We picked up a clarinet player and I’m excited to see how cheesy we can make these songs sound…

Wednesday, I drove to ATL and went with katie to see Ani Difranco in Little 5 points. We went to Vortex to try their award-winning hamburgers.
Warning, this is a difficult thought to process: we pretty much decided that we haven’t had a burger better than the ones they make, but I know I’ve had a few that were “as good.” That means: there’s an upper limit for the tastiness of a hamburger. It’s a mind-numbing thought. I’d like to think that there’s a better burger out there, but there might not be. Maybe I’ll have to start eating $50/lb Kobe beef….
The Ani concert itself was a lot of fun. We sat next to some lesbian couples who made out the whole time. She played a lot of songs from Knuckle Down, and the crowd ruined the good/old songs by singing along. But it was still fun. Little 5 is not as alternative as I remembered. Maybe I’m older than a lot of people that hang out there, so it doesn’t feel as cool as it used to….

Today consisted of driving back to Augusta, taking the clinical skills test (lovingly referred to as the OSCE) and meeting Ashley, Mac, and Big Paul (along with Cayce and Nicole) at Vallarta. I just got done watching a hilarious CSI (recorded OC onto DVD to watch with KJ this weekend, I’m trying to maximize my acronyms). If you don’t watch CSI then the jokes won’t be funny, and if you do then you’ve already seen it.

Tomorrow I have class and then our gig, if we record it then I will try and post a link to some songs.

Speaking of our band (NWJ) and music and gigs, check out the Myspace page that Mac made for us (turn your speakers on!):

alright time to watch The Ultimate Fighter from bed, hopefully this tides you over until next tuesday……..

maybe a tuesday/thursday blogging schedule works

April 25, 2006

Class ended 35 minutes early, so here I am grinding it out in the library for you guys…
From now on, this blog will be updated tuesdays and thursdays for sure. I’ll try to stick to that.

OK lots of things to talk about. First up, Katie was very nice and hitched a ride with Mark and Andrea most of the way to Augusta on Friday. Saturday morning, Enterprise Mill decided to shut off the power from 9am to 11am……it was pretty dark in the hallways (not too bad in my apt because of the large windows). It was raining on top of that. I had to go set up and play a gig for the first annual MCG Dance Marathon. All you UGA folks should be thinking “wow he played for about 1,000 people,” and I appreciate the good thoughts. No, this gig was for 12 people (maybe up to 20 at one point, I’m not exaggerating). There were 6-8 2nd year students/spouses that came out, and I appreciated that. We’ll have to make sure that the gig is going to be promoted a lot better if we’re playing next time…I think we’re developing a pretty good reputation, though.
Ok after that, KJ and I got in the car and drove to ATL. We didn’t do too much on Saturday night, we ate Mellow Mushroom and then rented Junebug (a independent-esque film with Ryan Atwood sporting an amazing crustasche). It was better than I expected, some funny moments that aren’t coming back to me immediately…
Sunday was jam-packed: woke up, went over to Katie’s parents’ house, helped move that white sleeper couch out of the house and onto Lil Red, moved an antique pinball machine, hung out and ate lunch. After that we went back to katie’s apartment briefly, and then went to her Spring Fling Carnival at her school. I’ve met some of her parents before and it’s fun to see the kids running around. After that we got ready for dodgeball over at Cam and Scott’s apartment. Josh is back from the Army (for good) so he met us over there and we rode down to the match in katie’s car.
Participants: Cam, Jonny, Scott, Pate, Josh, and me…we were pretty good. There were 3 teams there and we did a round-robin. Approximate stats that we’re going to keep throughout the season: wins/losses (of course), “kills,” catch-outs made, number of times “out” in games. So, here it comes, the ultimate measure of dodgeball skill: the KO ratio. (Kills + Catch-outs)/number of times you get Out. Of course, there’s a problem if you go a whole season without getting out…can’t divide by 0…but that’s not likely to happen. Currently my ratio (in exhibition play) would be .750. approximately. it’s tough to remember…something for the fans/statisticians.
ok more later, it’s class time

OC updates

In case you haven’t been following:
Sandy and Kirsten are fighting over Sandy’s newfound love for “The Hospital.” She uncorked a bottle of wine last week…
Marissa is with a guy that looks like Casey, but I don’t see it going anywhere (she and ryan are both accepted into Cal-Berkeley).
Ryan just found out about Theresa’s kid (she says he’s not the father, but you shouldn’t believe that). They’re currently “going to get a bite” so she can tell him all about his child.
Anna (remember her) is back and she looks like Orlando Bloom’s character in Lord of the Rings (i’ll prove it when i can find a picture).
LegolasAnna

That’s the best I can do for now, hopefully I will find a better one…
Aside from that, I have a test tomorrow on Muscles, Bones, and Skin. It’s not exciting stuff. Pretty much, there are a bunch of different types of arthritis, caused by many different disorders, and i have no idea how they’re going to test on it.
I’m picking up Katie from the Racetrac in Thomson (getting dropped off for a weekend visit) tomorrow evening and she’s going to watch me perform at the MCG Dance Marathon Saturday afternoon. That’s going to be the highlight of my week for sure, much better than preparing and giving a presentation on Bone Tumors.
We won our softball playoff game last night, no thanks to me (0-1, 1 BB…..but no errors).
Have a good night, i’m going to keep a book in my lap while I watch Wild N Out…
