OK here it comes, the moment you’ve all been waiting for: Dodgeball stats and wrapup.
I can’t do a better job than Cameron on a play-by-play description of our action, so I’ll give you analysis of my performance (email me and i’ll forward you his play-by-play recap):
I’ve decided that I’m going to go out every game. I play an aggressive style that draws throws. I’m not taunting, but I don’t project a “don’t throw at me cause you’ll just be wasting a dodgeball” vibe. Instead, I see myself as the guy who’s in charge of the “hack-a-Shaq” defense. He’s out there to get fouls and sit right back down. But, he’s creating offensive opportunities for his team (after I draw throws, Cam can snipe the throwers).
Another thing I can do: retrieve balls from the sidelines. I’m the champion at the “tennis ball-boy run” and I’d like to think I’m helping the team out with that.
Don’t get me wrong, my kill ratio isn’t 0, but it’s not anywhere close to 1 (the pre-season “good player” cutoff). the mendoza line of dodgeball should be around 0.50, I think…you get 5 people out either through throws or catches and you got out 10 times. Other vital statistics: retention ratio (games you survived/total games played, mine would be 0/7) and the “last out” (kinda like a shutout by a pitcher, it’s the special situation where you are the last surviving member of the team whether you eventually win or lose, I obviously don’t have any of those).

In addition to statistical analysis, there needs to be more discussion of practice strategies (including full speed throwing-at-a-cone drills and defensive two-line blocking drills) and in-game strategies (the toss-back hasn’t worked very well yet but I still have faith).

We need a more strict conditioning program, which I have instituted personally by jogging every day this week (yes it’s tuesday). I challenge my team members to do the same: at least 15 minutes of jogging a day (>20 if you don’t have to run up hills like I do) — you can spare it before you go to work.

Alright that’s about it for me today. Stay tuned this week, I’ll try to have more for you on Thursday.

library update

Two days in a row, i’ve noticed this lady who sits at the computer all day and posts on the General Hospital message boards.
yesterday, i saw a guy looking on the Worldwide battle rap and battle DJ hiphop forums. There’s all sorts of people here, i have to force myself into a cubicle that faces the wall and immerse myself in my books. I’ve been putting headphones in my ears (not connected to anything, didn’t you read my “i’m going to buy an ipod” comment below) and that helps a little bit.
I’ve currently covered all of the First Aid “high yield” anatomy topics (not neuroanatomy, that’s a two day project for later this week) and now i’m taking a short break to post about the General hospital lady.

I don’t know how or when she actually watches the show — she’s in here posting about it!

I have a problem with Apple.

Here it is:
They just came out with a new MacBook (used to be called the iBook) and it looks pretty sweet, starts at $1099, you get the picture. They offer it in black and white.
They are charging $200 more for a black one than a white one.
Of course everybody wants the cool looking black macbook to match their black ipod. They don’t charge more for the black ipod. So why do they feel they can gouge the customer $200 for a different paint color?
I hope there’s a huge protest against this, but Scott’s probably going to buy one anyway (along with about a million other people).
And truthfully, I can’t blame him too much. I’m probably gonna get a black ipod sometime soon (whenever my best buy gift certificate comes in) and if i was in the market for a new laptop, i’d probably consider a matching macbook.

In other news, the library is still boring.
Anatomy is the topic of the day, along with a review of what I learned yesterday. They say that’s the best way to synthesize the material, spend a little time reviewing and integrating it.
Grey’s anatomy last night was LONG and commercial-ridden. We watched the Sunday 1 hour episode on tivo, and then watched the 2 hour finale. That’s a lot of Grey’s anatomy…

UPDATE:
on further review, the black macbook comes stock with a 80gb hard drive, while the white one has a 60gb standard. The cost to upgrade the white one to 80gb? $50.
And lookee here, there’s already a 3-7 day shipping delay on the black ones (1-5 days on the white). PT Barnum, rejoice!
