welcome back

June 8, 2006

Due to some complaints about a lack of updates (well, one complaint) I have decided to spend a little time this morning and write a solid post. I’m currently racking my brain for topics, but maybe a stream of consciousness post-style will work better. I’ll go back and add links as appropriate. Ready? Joyce/Kerouac/other literary figures, you’ve met your match today (I’m going to type with my eyes closed and not edit any mistakes):

I decided to take the plunge and purchase an ipod this week. katie gave me a gift certificate saying “you’ll never get it for yourself if I don’t help you” and it turns out she was right. I proceeded to dump all of my music from my computer onto it, and it’s still 2/3 empty. such gems as the recently-downloaded Double Disc Essentials of Heart are the stars of the “25 most played” playlists. I also put 50+ hours of review audio and have been listening to snippets of Dr. Goljan, Dr. Ganapathy, Dr. Dolen, etc. It’s nice to have this stuff at my fingertips instead of being tied to a computer to listen (plus it cuts down on internet distractions). Last weekend we ventured to Augusta, which made katie misterably sick (that’s the connection some people experience, augusta = nausea and vomiting). So she spent the weekend recovering, I got my rent paid, and we spent 5 hours round trip in the car when I could have spent $0.39 on postage to mail a check. I thought I could pick up my mail, but the augusta post office isn’t open on saturdays…is dunwoody’s? i thought it was. regardless, we needed to get the air mattress, PS2, and my blue polo shirt so it wasn’t a total waste. Eyes still closed by the way, except for “$0.39″ because i can never remember where the dollar sign is on the keyboard. changing gears back to stuff I have on my ipod — i have been using bittorrent on my parents house to get the “hot trendy new music that everybody’s talking about” — including Gnarls Barkley. I should like their album because I like goodie mob, i like Cee-lo’s solo work, and I really like DJ Dangermouse’s “Grey Album” where he took Jay-Z’s black album lyrics and remixed it with tracks he created exclusively from the Beatles White Album, you might remember the hubbub that surrounded all of that. Well, Gnarls Barkley is a “supergroup” meeting of those two minds. I haven’t listened to a single track yet, but it’s on my intra-upstairs transfer device (thumbdrive) waiting to get imported into iTunes and then onto the 30gb wasteland that contains all of my various musical interests. Apparently including a single coldplay song, which snuck onto my computer when i was asked to learn it by David’s other band (i don’t like coldplay much at all), and katie mercilessly made fun of me for that. Speaking of katie, her children graduated from Pre-K last night. The ceremony was held in the dunwoody prep parking lot, and Director Jane Newman officiated. I served as “assistant musical director” when i pressed play on the small CD player containing background music for katie’s class song. They performed “the PRE K CLASS” (sung to the Adams Family beat) and “Snowflake” (for which I provided the accompaniment). After that we went to Garcia’s and drank, then went back to barringer and drank some more. it was a stressful day for KJ. In other news, my fantasy team had a MONSTER day yesterday (scored 11 runs, Furcal was 2/5 with 2HR, and I got two great SP performances) so I’m currently beating scott 6-2 — we’re tied in RBI and SB (I should be able to pull ahead in one of those).

OK how’s that for a stream of consciousness blog update?
things I’m looking forward to:
NY Prime on Friday June 23rd (for dinner after I take Step 1)
St. George Island (leaving sunday June 25th)
Rotations starting July 3rd

things I’m dreading:
“the last big push” between now and the 23rd — crunch time by definition.
Driving to Augusta for orientation on July 3rd (the day we return from the beach, i have to drive 2.5 more hours)
seeing a lot of gross Tucker/Forest Park “situations”
