The Scruple-based football score-guessing challenge

September 10, 2006

AKA “an imaginary journey through credit-based football score-guessing”

Here is the premise: each week, I update you with the number of credits currently available in the imaginary bank accounts of three imaginary individuals. I will also update you with any imaginary guesses made with aforementioned credits, and keep you posted on how we would be doing if we actually were spending money.

I will be playing the part of Player T, Cam will be Player C, and Jonny will be Player J.

Summary as of 4:15 PM on Sunday
Player T started the weekend with 53 scruples ($ = Scruples, the official currency of the credit-based football score-guessing extravaganza). He made the following guesses:
$5 LSU -16.5 WIN (+9.55 scruples)
$5 UGA -3 WIN (+9.55 scruples)
$5 big underdog college football parlay (OSU+3, Min+9, AFA+20, UCF+23) LOSS

$5 Saints +3 WIN (+9.76 scruples)
$10.50 Colts -3 WIN (+)
$15 free guess: Marvin Harrison NO touchdown on sunday night WIN (+30)
$8.40 chargers -3 WIN(+)
Started with $53, finished with 112.60, profit of 59.60 which is a 110.86% increase.
Player J
Player J started the weekend with $200 scruples, and made the following guesses:

$10 Falcons/Panthers over 39 points - LOSS
$10 Bengals/Chiefs over 49.5 points - LOSS
$10 Falcons +4.5 - WIN (+$19.09 scruples)
$15 free guess: Marvin Harrison YES touchdown on Sunday night LOSS(+15 back)
Started with 200, ended with 350, profit of 150 or 75%.
Player C
(finally, I’m getting around to the winner)
Started with $50 scruples
$10.00 Minnesota +175 WIN (+27.50)
$10.00 Parlay Chargers -3, Colts -3 WIN (+38.18)
$10.00 Virginia Tech -13 WIN (+19.09)
$10.00 Parlay UGA -3, Ohio St +2 WIN (+35.69)
$10.00 FSU +145 WIN (+24.50) — caveat, this bet was for the monday night FSU/Miami game which was the previous week I believe — we’ll still count it
$10.00 Seahawks -4 Loss
Ended with 134.96 scruples, a gain of $84.96 or 170%, crushing the competition.

So that’s the final tally. Cam wins the ARRIBES GRANDES for this past weekend. Coming soon, next weekend’s results (starting with West Virginia/Maryland tonight)

  1. You can talk about percentages as much as you want, but everyone knows that money talks. Looks like this “Jonny” character was the big winner, crushing you other two chumps. He’s probably the best looking too, from the sound of it.

  2. When player C continues to build his scruple account (mind you based on free scrupples) then he can wheel and deal with the big boys. You know what they say, percentages wins championships.
